Sports Betting Board reference

Sports Betting Board Glossary

A plain-English glossary of sports betting board terms, including moneyline, spread, total, edge, tracked pick, playable pick, ROI, units, and no action.

Moneyline

A market focused on which team wins the game. Negative odds usually indicate a favorite, while positive odds indicate an underdog or plus-money side.

Point spread

A market based on margin of victory. A team can win the spread without winning the game outright, depending on the listed number.

Total

A market based on combined scoring by both teams. It is often called the over/under.

Over / Under

The two sides of a total. Over means the combined score finishes above the listed number. Under means it finishes below the listed number.

Odds

The price attached to a selection. Odds affect risk, payout, and whether a side has enough value to be considered useful.

Edge

A signal that a side may have value compared with the market price or line. Edge is not a guarantee; it is a research and classification concept.

Edge board

A sports betting board that goes beyond listing odds by adding selection context, model signals, color classifications, tracked results, and playable status.

Tracked pick

A selected row that is recorded for audit and performance history. Tracked does not automatically mean playable.

Playable pick

A selected row that meets a board’s stronger standards for action. Playable status should be separated from basic tracking.

Strong Play

A high-confidence board classification. On this site, Green is used as the example Strong Play color.

Standard Play

A normal playable classification. On this site, Yellow is used as the example Standard Play color.

Thin Play

A weaker or thinner playable classification. On this site, Orange is used as the example Thin Play color.

Avoid

A classification for rows that should not be treated as playable. On this site, Red is used as the example Avoid color.

No Action

A classification for rows that are not playable, often because they are outside a preferred range or do not meet board criteria. On this site, Grey is used as the example No Action color.

Units

A standardized way to measure results without tying performance to a specific dollar amount.

ROI

Return on investment. In board tracking, ROI helps compare performance across markets, colors, time periods, and playable groups.

Push

A result where the final score lands exactly on the listed spread or total. A push is usually graded as no win and no loss.

Color bucket

A group of rows sharing the same color classification. Color buckets can be audited over time to see whether they are behaving as intended.

These terms are provided for educational purposes. A sports betting board does not need to accept wagers or operate as a sportsbook.
